Miramar is located in southwestern Broward County. It is the third largest city in terms of land size and is home to more than 122,000 residents.
Miramar has 912,100 square feet of warehouse/distribution space on 60.37 acres. It is home to many major corporations and Fortune 500 companies including American Express, Fed Ex, Clear Channel Communications, Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, Memorial Healthcare Systems, Premier Beverage, Quest Diagnostics, Humana, Trane, Spirit Airlines, Elizabeth Arden, and more. Miramar is also home to Le Cordon Bleu, Broward College, Nova Southeastern University, and Florida International University.
Miramar is centrally located between the Miami and Ft. Lauderdale metro areas and near the Miami and Ft. Lauderdale International airports and seaports. Major thoroughfares include U.S. Highway 27, I-75, the Florida Turnpike, 1-95 and the Sawgrass Expressway. Local roadways include Pembroke Pines, Miramar Boulevard, Miramar Parkway, Flamingo Road, and U.S. 441 (State Road 7).
In 2015, Florida’s Integrated Report Exchange System (FIRES) reported that Miramar had 6 fatalities and 425 injuries involving 1,081 vehicle crashes. FIRES shows that for the first three months of 2016, there have been 289 car crashes with 162 injuries and two fatalities. There have been 22 commercial vehicle crashes and 180 property damage crashes.
On Miramar Boulevard near Red Road, a tractor-trailer driver crashed into a tree and powerlines. The truck caught fire and the driver was killed. In another accident, a vehicle left the roadway and crashed through trees off the Turnpike Exit near Red Road. Then on Interstate 75 another vehicle left the exit ramp and crashed into a retention pond after failing to negotiate the curve. The driver died. The area involved was also in a construction zone.
